Ramblings: Movie Budgets and MGS
I was reading the news today, online ofcourse, and there was an article abour Metal Gear Solid not being made into a movie because of the budget. Apparently Sony Pictures is willing to finance the film for about $40 to $80 million. Kojima does not believe that amount to be enough to recreate the universe of the game in a movie so the project has been halted to a stop.
Now I don’t know about you but I am personally getting sick of the whole budget story. Ofcourse it is important but $80 is not enough to make a good movie nowadays? Metal Gear Solid is the blockbuster of video games but I don’t believe it to be impossible to do without a $250 million dollar budget. Paranormal Activity was made for $11.000. Moon was made for $5 million. Those were films that didn’t really involve exosceletons and flying metal gears but what about District 9? It had a budget of $30 million and it looks golden. So what do you need more to make a good movie nowadays? A big truck full of money or a great team, a director with a vision and most importantly a great script?
I trully believe that sometimes less is better. It makes the team squeeze every little drop of that budget where it matters and bypass completely the idiotic super explosions. What do you think?
